Al-Ayyala is a traditional cultural performance where it has two rows of performers facing each other and performing a stylized battle scene. It is practiced in Northern Oman and throughout the United Arab Emirates. During the performance, you feel a rush of adrenaline engulf you, even if you are a spectator. The amalgamation of drum music, dancing, and synchronized chanted poetry charges the atmosphere around you.
During the performance, the musicians beautifully play drums, tambourines, and brass cymbals. Here, the men partaking in the performance move their heads and bamboo sticks, which signify swords and spears that were once used by the men, synchronizing along with rhythm and enriching the air.
Here, we see men and women in their traditional costumes and it is a wondrous sight where we can see people celebrating their rich culture. The girls toss their heads from side to side whilst wearing traditional outfits. The melody during the performance has seven tones, and the chanted poetry that goes with it varies while in sync.
All the performers who partake come from various walks of life and vary in age. Here, the lead performer is responsible for training all the other dancers to ensure a wondrous performance.
